Ever have to go through bunches
if digital photos, all named, DSCN0001.jpg, DSCN0002.jpg, etc., renaming
them with meaningful names? Ever wish you could attach anecdotes or other
information to a picture so that it wouldn't get lost? Ever wish there
was a way to quickly fix red-eye, level that tilted horizon, or rescue
those poorly exposed photos?
If so, Swizzy PhotoSmacker
is the program for you.
PhotoSmacker
Features
- Provides a simple interface
to quickly review photos and replace the generic file names created
by most digital cameras with more meaningful names.
- Can automatically generate
meaningful file names based on date or time, caption, keywords, or sequence
number, in a format you can customize.
- Allows you to embed captions
directly in JPEG and TIFF photo files so they don't get lost. These
captions can then be displayed by Windows Explorer, the Swizzy PictureFrame
program, or any other program that recognizes the EXIF 'User Comment'
field.
|
Note:
|
The
comments are not burned into the image itself, but added
to the EXIF information block at the front of the file. Your original
image remains unharmed. |
- Allows you to add keywords
that can be used in PhotoSmacker's search feature, Windows Explorer,
or any other program that supports Windows compatible keywords.
- Provides
the ability to "grade" your photos, as an added way to identify
(and also search for) your best pictures quickly and easily.
- Quickly add a copyright
notice with one keystroke to the caption or keywords fields.
- Allows you to rotate sideways
JPEG photos using lossless rotation that retains the exact size and
quality of the original image no matter how many times you rotate it.
-
Provides a quick way to perform the four most common corrections applied
to most digital photos: color/contrast correction, auto-sharpening,
leveling tilted horizons, and red-eye removal.
- Lets you add a "needs
work" reminder to photos so that you know which ones you need to revisit
and tweak in your favorite image editing program.
- Provides a streamlined
interface, including extensive keyboard support, that allows you to
process a whole folder full of photos in minutes rather than hours.
- Provides the ability to
search nested folders for photos based on file name, caption, keywords,
or "needs work" reminder.
- Allows you to copy or move
photos by folder or based on a search criteria that you specify.
- Includes a handy Slideshow
Mode with cross-fade transitions to show off your photos.
Changes in 1.5.1
Version 1.5.1 of PhotoSmacker introduces the following new features:
- Fixed a bug where clicking
on another image after a multi-select wouldn't apply the changes to
all the selected images.
- Improved the visual appearance of the auto-sharpening correction.
Changes in 1.5.0
- Added a (multi-select)
capability so that you can quickly apply a set of edits to more than
one photo.
- Improved the handling of
TIFF files with alternate compression methods.
- Added the ability to level photos where the horizon is tilted.
- Added the option to streamline file names auto-generated from the
caption by removing uninteresting words like the, and,
a, etc.
- Added the option to remove spaces from auto-generated file names and
capitalize each word instead.
- Added new cross-fade options
when displaying photos in slideshow mode.
- Changed the auto-naming generation feature to provide more intuitive
results.
- Added a number of performance enhancments and bug fixes that improve
the speed and stability of the program.
Changes in 1.0.4
PhotoSmacker 1.0.4 was a complete rework of the original Captioner program,
and introduced the following new features:
- The ability to display
small, medium, or large thumbnail images in the Photo list.
- Three types of automatic color/contrast correction that make
good photos look even better.
- An auto-sharpen
feature that removes the slight blurring introduced my most digital
cameras.
- The ability to remove Red-Eye
(or animal green-eye) quickly and easily.
- The option to backup your original (unedited) photos when applying
color/contrast correction, auto-sharpening, or red-eye removal to an
image.
- The ability to caption/correct
TIFF files in addition to JPEG files.
- A smart EXIF backup/restore
that merges external changes to the EXIF info with the information backed
up by PhotoSmacker.
- A new Slideshow Mode that provides quick and easy full-screen
viewing of your photos.
- The ability to speed up the captioning process by preloading additional
photos in the background as you work (uses more memory.)
- A cool new user interface that makes the program a little less boring,
and a lot more fun to use!
- Lots of small bug fixes
and usability improvements.
Changes in 1.0.3
- Fixed bug that caused certain infrequent EXIF tags to get skipped.
- Changed look of radio buttons in options menu to make them a bit
more distinguishable from checkboxes.
Changes in 1.0.2
- Fixed missing "make folder" button for file copy and move operations.
- Fixed bug where moving/deleting files would leave the photo list
in a bad state, causing a hang when switching to a new directory.
- Fixed a problem where images from a Minolta DiMAGE Xt camera included
invalid tags in the header (value 0x7F), causing images to not appear
in the List of Photos.
- F ixed bug where exiting before all the thumbnails were loaded would
stall the program until all the thumbnails were loaded.
- Changed red-eye removal so that it does less damage to the iris color
when the removal circle expands beyond the pupil.
- Fixed a small memory leak that occurred if you applied red-eye correction
and then answered No to Save Changes.
- Tweaked sharpening algorithm to be a bit less extreme on images with
smaller features.
- Fixed a prompt in the Fix Files dialog that was being cut off.
- Sped up sharpening correction by about 15%.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How can I try out PhotoSmacker and see if it's for me?
A: Download the free trial version by clicking on the link
above. Once downloaded, double-click on the installer and follow the
directions given to install and run the program.
Q: What does the full version of PhotoSmacker do that the trial
version does not?
A: The trial version will only allow you to edit and save
200 photos. After that, the save button will be disabled. Purchasing
the program removes this restriction.
Q: How will I know when a free upgrade for PhotoSmacker is available?
A: Assuming that the E-mail address you entered when you purchased
PhotoSmacker is still valid, you will receive a notification
when a free upgrade to the program is available at the Swizzy web
site. Note that we only use your E-mail address to notify you of upgrades,
and not to spam you with new product announcements (click here
to see our privacy policy for more details.) We are also investigating
how to provide a mechanism at purchase time that will allow you to
opt-out of receiving such notifications.
Q: Why can't I caption GIF or BMP files?
A: GIF and BMP files do not support user data blocks as part
of their definitions. Consequently, there's no place to store the
caption and keyword data. This isn't a big problem, as most digital
cameras save their photos as JPEG or TIFF files anyway.
Q: I've used up my test pictures in the trial version. Now what?
A: All PhotoSmacker functions will continue to operate,
but you will not be able to save your changes back to disk. This will
allow you to continue experimenting with the program if you're still
unsure about wanting to buy it. If you know you'd like to purchase
PhotoSmacker, click on the link above.
Q: Other than in PhotoSmacker itself, how can I view captions I've added
to photos?
A: The Swizzy PictureFrame
program and as well as any program that knows about Windows
style comments can display captions added to JPEG and TIFF photos
by PhotoSmacker. You can also read your captions in Windows XP by
simply hovering the mouse cursor over a photo in either a folder or
Explorer window, or by displaying the Summary tab of the Properties
page for a captioned file.
